by Sharlene Gillette Civano Aging in Community provides services to our neighborhood residents who are elderly and/or disabled under the auspices of the Pima Council on Aging. We receive training and other help from the Council, and in return we report to them on our activities. The kinds of help provided range from assistance with small tasks such as light housekeeping or yard work to providing transportation or simply friendly visits and doing errands. By Suzanne Trevino In other words, I can’t eat wheat, rye, or barley flour, dairy products, or anything to “irritate” my picky, demanding insides (irritable bowel syndrome, IBS), such as insoluble fiber, high fat, high acidic foods, alcohol, caffeine, chocolate, or anything carbonated, like sodas. This seems to be a “new age” phenomenon shared across the population but zeroing in on aging women. Children show gluten intolerance with celiac disease.  Fortunately, food producers are rapidly catching up with production of foods we “afflicted” can eat. By Dr. Carolyn Finnell Allergy season is strongly upon us! Itchy, swollen eyes, runny nose, sinus congestion and itchy throat are all symptoms of seasonal allergies. Itchy eyes are caused by histamine, a protein which is released from immune cells called mast cells in the ocular tissue.
