Civano Resident Bill Durbin Wins Mount Lemmon Marathon, 70+

May 12, 2013
Runners on Mount Lemmon

With the recent terrifically bad news about the Boston Marathon, it is no surprise that Tucson’s local marathon, the Mount Lemmon Marathon, got short shrift in the local press. In fact, there was no reporting at all about this unique event, except to warn of the possible traffic congestion for Sunday morning going up Mount Lemmon. The race is called “one of the toughest road marathons in the world,” probably because it is all uphill. The race, covering a distance of 26.1 miles, also involves a vertical climb of 5,850 feet in elevation.

Oktoberfest—A Great Party!

Oktoberfest—A Great Party!

By Susan Call The Civano Neighbors Neighborhood Association second annual Oktoberfest on November 3 proved to be a big hit with at least 300 people—adults and children—at our neighborhood center. The music, by Musikmeister, entertained folks as they ate bratwurst, hotdogs and burgers, with the accompaniments brought by the attendees. The neighborhood association, with the financial assistance of several sponsors, provided the meats (and some veggie burgers), and sold root beer floats and steins, plus other neighborhood products. Through this means the association was able to pay the expenses plus make a bit of money to help fund future events.…

Sunday Soup Suppers are Up and Running!

By Rich and Ann Bates Many thanks to Judyth Willis and Sue Nedrow for reviving the community soup suppers last year on a regular basis, with community members like Rick and Linda Hanson stepping in to find speakers. For those of you who missed these events, many were standing-room only, and we hope to continue that momentum this year. We have a full range of soup suppers and speakers for the third Sunday of each month (but we’ll skip December). The suppers are held in the Civano activity center from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. The first one this fall is…
