Civano Community Garden is in Bloom!

By Sharlene Gillette Have you been to view the Civano community garden lately? Stop by our  garden, located between Mary Webber Park and the Civano neighborhood center, and see the roses, pomegranates, and sunflowers blooming, and the wonderful garden plots. Be sure to take a minute to check out the beautiful new tiles on our Notice Board. These were donated by Sun Styles Specialty Printing, Civano’s provider of our official glassware, mugs and more. Thanks to Geno and Diane for their beautifully designed gift to the community gardens. We so appreciate the work of these wonderful neighbors on behalf...

Report to Neighbors Care Alliance and a Call for Volunteers

By Bob Small This organization is better known in Civano as  Aging in Community, an organization that has been around here since the early days. It is operated through the Pima Council on Aging, which provides support to us through funding, training and coordination of services. For the month of March 2012, our volunteers provided services which ranged from transporting clients, delivering meals, running errands, providing friendly visits and phone calls, as well as light housekeeping and other things like dog walking. We served a total of 26 individuals, with one a new client this month. All this was...

From the Editor: Civano Community News

March 24, 2012
Dog Park

By Susan Call  Some happenings that everyone in Civano should be aware of include the creation of a new HOA committee:  the CCAAC, which replaces the Rotunda Committee. This committee originally was created to care for the neighborhood center building, where the activities of the Civano Neighborhood Association typically take place. The committee serves as an interface between the neighborhood association and the home owners association, at least as I understand it. The CCAAC stands for Civano Common Area Assets Committee, so I guess the duties of the former Rotunda Committee have been expanded too. At any rate, some...

Aging in Community, a Neighbors Care Alliance

by Sharlene Gillette Civano Aging in Community provides services to our neighborhood residents who are elderly and/or disabled under the auspices of the Pima Council on Aging. We receive training and other help from the Council, and in return we report to them on our activities. The kinds of help provided range from assistance with small tasks such as light housekeeping or yard work to providing transportation or simply friendly visits and doing errands. All these kinds of help are provided at no charge, and make it possible for many people to remain independent. During November, 13 volunteers provided services...

FYI: Out and About in Civano and Tucson

Wednesday Film Nights Here is a reminder that there are films in the Neighborhood Center on the third Wednesday of the month, which are selected and presented by your neighbors. This year the theme for the films is biographies. Following the presentation there is usually a lively discussion. The next film night is coming up, on Wednesday, January 18th at 6:30 in the Rotunda with the biography of Alice Paul and the National Women’s Party and women’s suffrage—“Iron Jawed Maiden.” This film will be presented by Glenn & Clara Pfeifer with a new sound system that they have in...

Sunday Soup Suppers Canceled

By Suzanne Trevino The planning committee of this Sunday evening feature has decided to cancel the event for the present. Although it has been great fun, as well as a tremendous “community-meet-yourself” event, attendance was down last year, and it was decided to give it a rest for awhile. If anyone would like to take a turn at organizing the evening, please “go forth” with all our good wishes. From the former organizers, Suzanne Trevino and Rich & Ann Bates

Aging in Community: Neighbors Helping Neighbors

Aging in Community: Neighbors Helping Neighbors

By Sharlene Gillette Meet a few of Civano’s most appreciated volunteers.  Civano’s “Aging In Community” working group organizes contacts and assistance for our neighbors.  Who are the volunteers? They are your neighbors.  We recognize that neighbors do help each other in so many ways.  We would be happy to know about more of these events and, perhaps, to incorporate these efforts into our working group. Meet Bob Small, coordinator of Aging In Community. Not only does he head up our group, he also volunteers as a driver, errand runner, dog walker for neighbors.  In addition he actively volunteers for...

Join the Civano Bridge Group!

By Suzanne Trevino The Civano Bridge Group is looking for anyone with former bridge or pinochle experience — and an “addiction to cards”. We play intermittently in homes. Also we schedule a monthly potluck and tournament. New members are asked to play with members at least one time to check level of skill. We’re happy to have fairly new players; we can discuss bidding and play at the table. Ann Edwards plans a refresher course, to be announced: check back here or on the Civano discussion forum for the latest news. Please contact Suzanne Trevino at 520.296.2656 if interested....
