Happy New Year! The Year of the Dragon is Coming!

by Judyth Willis If your birthday falls between January 23rd, 2012, and February 9, 2013, and if you are going to be 12, 24, 36, 48, and so on in multiples of 12, there is every chance that this will be an amazing year. You were born in the Year of the Dragon and this is going to be your lucky year. Unlike the wicked, fire-breathing dragons of Western mythology, China’s celestial dragon symbolizes potent and benevolent power. Dragon years are considered particularly auspicious for new businesses, marriage, and children. And who wouldn’t want to have the attributes of...

Three is (the Best) Company

January 17, 2012
Tres Amigos

By Ardi C. Whalen Tess, Dusty, and Bailey are three Shetland sheepdogs (more commonly known as “Shelties”), who share their Civano home with Nancy and Bob Daliege. Tess, 12 years old, likes people but is leery of strange dogs. She is a trained, registered therapy dog who came with Bob and Nancy when they moved here from Connecticut. Dusty, a loving seven year old who gave my hand several kisses, came from a Sheltie breeder in New River, Arizona. He is a bit larger than usual for a Sheltie, but that just means there is more of him to...

Civano Micro Yachting Association is Growing

January 8, 2012
victoriayacht

By Jerry Walker The Civano Micro Yachting Association has had six growing experiences since our last article, changing it forever. First, as a result of the two articles that have appeared in the Arizona Daily Star this summer, we have increased the number of participants to 12, with most living outside of Civano. So, major occurrence number two is a name change. We will now be the Pima Model Yacht Club (PMYC). Number three, we have selected our preferred boats for the Club. The Victoria will be our club “primary” sailboat, the Soling the “secondary” boat, and any long-keeled...

Aging in Community, a Neighbors Care Alliance

by Sharlene Gillette Civano Aging in Community provides services to our neighborhood residents who are elderly and/or disabled under the auspices of the Pima Council on Aging. We receive training and other help from the Council, and in return we report to them on our activities. The kinds of help provided range from assistance with small tasks such as light housekeeping or yard work to providing transportation or simply friendly visits and doing errands. All these kinds of help are provided at no charge, and make it possible for many people to remain independent. During November, 13 volunteers provided services...

Holiday Fair a Big Success!

Holiday Fair

By Linda Green December 3, 2011, turned out to be a great day for a fair. Although the day’s weather started out ominous and the artisans were concerned about setting up for a rain-filled event, at about 10:00 a.m. the sun came out and stayed out until the mid afternoon. We have heard only good things from everybody about how worthwhile, different and fun this fair was. All 19 artisans who participated with booths, whether they lived in Civano or came from another part of Tucson, felt the energy of the crowd and the ambiance of Civano. The vendors...

He Said, She Said

He Said, She Said

by Rich and Ann Bates He Said: Two distinctive films were released at year’s end stand apart from all others. Both appear destined to become favorites of folks who love movies. The first is Martin Scorsese’s Hugo based upon the children’s book The Invention of Hugo Cabret, by Brian Selznick. To me this is an absolutely perfect film in every sense of the word, from its unique opening credits to the landscape of a watch becoming the busy cross sections of Paris, to the story line of a homeless boy keeping the clocks at the train station in order,...
